Pranayama for Beginners | Alternate Nostril Breathing | Nadi Shodhana

Updated: May 12, 2022

It's simple. Follow the breath.

Benefits:

Cleanses the nadis, internal channels

Creates clear, bright energy

How to:

  1. Find a comfortable seat

  2. Draw the first two fingers into the palm. We will use the thumb and ring finger to close one nostril at a time.

  3. Even as you leave one nostril open, keep it closed slightly so that we can slow the flow of prana and lengthen the inhalation and exhalation.

  4. Begin by closing the right nostril, inhale on the left. Close the left, exhale right. Repeat 7 or more times.

  5. Switch sides. Close the left. Inhale on the right. Close the right, exhale left. Repeat 7 or more times.

  6. Release the hand to the lap and allow the two sides of the breath to come together again.
