You may consider qualities of the breath, such as depth or temperature, but try to maintain equanimity or non-judgement over what you observe. As distractions or thoughts arise, simply return the attention to following the breath. Remain for 5 minutes or more. 20 minutes is ideal to take the mind into deep meditative states.

  • Restorative Yoga for the Low Back

What You'll Need 2 Blocks Practice So today, we're going to learn how to use these blocks for what's called some restorative poses. These are some of my favorite restorative yoga poses for the lower back, we'll start out on our backs. Transition slowly onto your back bringing the blocks with us. So this is called restorative bridge pose. You can take either one or two blocks depending on how you want to stack them. I personally like to stack two blocks one on top of the other. But just for today, we'll start out with one block. So start out with the block at its lowest setting. Bring your feet in hip distance apart, walk the field as close as you can to your body. Lift your hips up. And you want to take the block and place this at the lower edge of the block aligned with your sacrum. If you're unfamiliar with where your sacrum is, one you can Google it or to take your finger find the very top of you butt crack so the tip of your tailbone area a lie the lower edge of the block with that, and the the sacrum is that little triangular shaped fusion at the base of the spine. So here, so you've got to provide some relief in the sacrum. If you have lower back issues, it's often due to stuff like this sitting on the sacrum and sitting for extended periods of time tightening up the hips. So we're going to loosen up the hips just by resting and focusing on the breath. So essentially, this movement creates what's called some traction for the lower back. I once went to the chiropractor and I saw that they had this machine that essentially just lifted you up and down like you were doing Bridge Pose. So here in restorative bridge, the block is supporting the sacrum is gently allowing it to hover off the floor, you're allowing this area here to release and decompress this area of lower back. Option 1 So option one is to stay here with the knees bent feet on the floor as long as you like maybe three to five minutes. From here. You can take the block, make it a little bit taller if you'd like if that feels good to your body. Again, the lower edge aligns with the sacrum. If you want to make it even taller, you have the option to lift the hips up support and here, or like I said earlier, taken two blocks for a wider base of support. Stacking the one on top of the other, lift the hips. And again supporting the sacrum for higher bridge pose. This feels lovely if you have some lower back issues can you just allow them all this to decompress. breathe slowly and deeply. Deeper the breath the deeper the stretch when it comes to restorative poses. Because restorative poses release and let go of all muscular effort. So this is what we would call more of a yin style practice as opposed to yang style where I will actively be holding myself up engaging my muscles in Bridge Pose. Here, there's no muscular effort on my behalf so I can stay in for extended periods of time and allow the muscles in the lower back to relax. Option 2 Now option two, if you're feeling really tight in the front of your hips, you can take the legs extended straight heels rests on the floor, maybe the feet fall open. I personally like to rest of my hands on my hips here and give a little massage in that space in the hip creases on the sides. This is one of the muscles in what we call the hip flexors, groups of muscles. So holding here, either gently massaging or letting the arms rest down in silence. If you don't like the way it feels with the blocks tall, maybe you walk the feedback and make the block shorter. Release it down and then extend the legs back out. Again you have to play with it to see what feels best for your body. This is your yoga practice is you practicing you find what works best for you at any given moment. Or arms extended downsize. Take a few deep breaths again with each exhale and try to relax, release and let go more so your body's thinking more to the floor, surrendering the weight of your body, letting go one breath at a time letting go of anything have any need to do anything, letting go and no need to be anywhere else except right here right now resting into this pose Option 3 Our last option for this restoring bridge pose is to walk the feet back in for what's called waterfall pose. So we'll take the legs extend both legs straight up into the sky. I like to point flex the feet here a few times just to release the ankles, the feet. If you've been on your feet all day, this feels lovely. Another way to do this pose is to do it up against the wall and let the legs be completely supported by the wall. If you rotate the ankles a few times clockwise, two times counterclockwise. Shake it out a bit. And again, just find stillness here. Maybe the knees want to bend slightly, that's okay, listen to your body. Or maybe you can keep them completely straight and that's okay. Whenever you're ready to come out of the pose. Exhale, slowly bend the knees, release both feet back down to the floor. Whenever you're ready, come out of the restorative Bridge Pose. Inhale, press the feet into the floor, lift the hips, exhale, releasing the blog and slowly lowering down vertebra by vertebra back down to the back so that you found length that you created here in the lower back. Option to keep the knees bent, feet flat on the floor. I personally like to walk feet out a little bit wider towards the edges of the mat. I feel this helps to release to the sacrum. So after doing that pose, so releasing, relax into the sacrum, lower back. One more deep breath, bring the knees into the chest, hold on just below the knees on the backs of the legs. Deep breath in. Exhale gently hug the thighs in towards the body. rock side to massage the lower back across the floor. Massaging across the sacrum and taking soft circles, then going in the opposite direction with those circles. Preparing to make our way back up to sitting, slowly roll over onto your right side. Use your right elbow and your left hand to help you press up. So keeping the head heavy, slowly press yourself up. Back to a comfortable cross leg seat position. Take a moment or two here just to acknowledge the shift and the difference that you feel in your lower back against this part of our lower back series for taking care of your lower back and your whole spine in that manner. In 2018, a group of local yoga teachers completing their 500hr Teacher Training hosted a successful yoga festival as part of their graduation project. They saw such success with the event, that several other yoga instructors from Casper and surrounding areas have joined together to keep the event alive. Having taken a 2 year hiatus due to COVID, we look forward to bringing the event back this year; bigger and better than ever. In 2020, all proceeds were to benefit Health Care for the Homeless Clinic of Casper. Since, the 2020 Festival was canceled, we have decided to choose TWO recipients for this year’s proceeds. Health Care for the Homeless, along with Natrona County Suicide Prevention Task Force. Health Care for the Homeless Clinic of Casper provides primary and preventive health care to individuals who are unhoused or in unstable housing, regardless of their ability to pay. • Tending the Flock of God | 1 Peter 5

Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith. The Books of the Bible Tending the Flock of God 1 Peter 5:1 Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you 2 to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it—not for sordid gain but eagerly. 3 Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. 5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sistersa in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever. Amen. Final Greetings and Benediction 12 Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. 13 Your sister church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark. 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. • Finding the Safe Place Within: As You Are Community Guided Meditation | Micheal Sinclair

Finding the safe place within. Hello and welcome to the As You Are community meditation. Thank you for being patient with me as I change my setup up. I was worried that I'd run out of Wi Fi signal if I was too far away, so I had to move a little bit closer. I'm Micheal Sinclair, I'll be your host for this meditation. Today, I want to try to point you to a place that feels safe. I know that everything that's going on in the world nowadays, got mass shootings at schools and churches and grocery stores, that people are being targeted because of the color of their skin or what they believe in. Not to mention the fact that we're still pretty much in the midst of a global pandemic, it can be understandable why someone wouldn't feel safe in the current climate. As much as I'd like to tell you that the world is safe. The truth is, the world is not safe. I kind of see the world like the ocean, you know, the ocean is a very dangerous place. But it's a place that we'd like to go and enjoy. And I think the world is the same way we can enjoy the world, we have to recognize that like the ocean, the world is full of dangers. The ocean is full of jagged rocks and seashells that might cut you, it's full of creatures that might want to see how you taste. It's also full of water that will crush you or drown you if you don't respect it. And the thing about the ocean is when we've had enough time in it, we take a step out, we go back to a safe place on the beach. And I think we have to approach our relationships with the world the sam way. We can spend time in the world. But after enough time has passed, we have to retreat back to our safe place. In this guided meditation, I want to try to lead you to a safe place. The first thing I want you to do is try to find a comfortable position. Now if you're sitting you want to sit with your spine as straight as possible. I want you to align your heart over your hips and your head over your heart. If you have difficulty doing that on your own, maybe use the back of the chair for support. Or if you'd rather lay down flat, that's perfectly fine as well. But what we want to make sure is that our spine is as straight as possible. Once you close your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so if you feel safe doing so hopefully you're in a safe place now a place that feels safe. But if you don't feel safe, and you don't want to open your eyes, that's totally fine as well. Or if you don't want to close your eyes, that's totally fine as well. The first thing I want you to do is to picture in your imagination, your mind's eye, the place that you feel the most safe. It's a place you can go to and always feel safe and secure. Perhaps that's you know, a place in your apartment or place in your home, perhaps us in your mother's lap or your lover's arms or perhaps it's a place on the other side of the world. But whatever that place is for you, I want you to imagine it. I want you to bring it into your awareness and hold it in your mind's eye. I want you to think about how that place looks. I want you to smell how it smells. I want you to feel how it feels. Want you to allow yourself to really embody this place this place where you feel safe perpetually. Once you feel comfortable enough in that space, all we're going to do all we're going to do for the next several minutes is watch our breath. We're going to feel safe and we're going to watch our breath. I want you to bring your awareness to your breath. Whatever rhythm it's at right now it's totally fine. Pay full attention to the inhale and the exhale. You can do this by paying attention to the sensation to the airflow on the tip of your nostril as you breathe in and out. If you find difficulty doing that and bring your awareness to the rising and the falling of your belly. And since we're in our safe place, I want you to feel totally allowed to let go of any of the weight that you're carrying, any of the weight from the current events of the world, any of the weight of the roles that you have to play in your day to day life, any of the weight of not feeling safe not feeling safe outside your home within your home. I know a lot have us don't feel safe within our homes. I want you to do your best to let all of that go to release everything that may have happened prior to this moment prior to you stepping into your safe space come into the present with me come into this present moment where it's safe. And for the next several minutes, we're just going to watch our breath It's totally fine have thoughts come in, if thoughts come in and try to take you away from that safe space. If that happens, all you have to do is notice that you gotten lost in a thought just return back to the safe place. It doesn't matter how many times you leave. What matters is that we return. Because we're in this safe place, because we're in this place within ourselves that we don't have to worry about any threats, you should feel for permission to relax, to let your guard down to release any tension that you may be holding. You're clenching your jaw, you're holding your shoulders up to your ears. Whatever it is that you may be doing, see if we can relax a little bit more. Allow your breath to become longer and deeper. See if you can regulate the rhythm of your breath to a nice natural rhythm, a nice easy pace. Sink deeper and deeper into the breath. Just like we were talking about the ocean before, maybe imagine your breath as waves coming in and going out. I want you to see if you can sink into that rhythm. Really embody the feeling of what it feels to be safe. I want you to really remember how it feels to feel safe. What is that feeling feel like? See if you can call on that feeling right now and see if you can feel that feeling of feeling safe on the inside. Not necessarily on the outside. But how does it feel to feel safe on the inside? I want you to grab hold of that feeling and see if we can sit with it for the rest of our meditation. If you're hearing a lot of background noise, I apologize, but allow the distractions to be a part of your meditation. Meditation doesn't require a complete silence. Instead, we are using our awareness, we're using our will to focus on something within, to hold our focus on something within, regardless of what's going on without. Embrace the distractions. They can't reach you in your safe place. You are several minutes into this meditation you've been doing a great job so far. If you happen to get lost in a thought that's totally fine. Come on back to your safe place. Release any obligations that you may have in the future. Just use this time to be with yourself and to be totally safe and to not have to deal with the world. I want you to feel how easy it is just sit with yourself. Just be with yourself to just be by yourself. I want you to feel how safe it feels to retreat to that place within yourself where no one else and nothing else can reach you. So that place within yourself where you are totally unassailable by external forces. Now the external safety is never guaranteed, although we are always risking danger when we go out into the world, I want you to remember that safeness is really an internal state. Safeness is something that you feel within yourself. Part of the reason why you feel safe at the ocean when you're in the ocean is that you know that you can get back out. The same goes for navigating this often chaotic world. I want you to remember that you can always retreat back to safety within yourself. We've reached the end of our meditation, you can start to maybe wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes a little bit, a little movement to the body. If you roll your shoulders if you feel like it. Just take a second to come back into this place. I just want to say thank you for taking this time out for yourself. Anytime you take time to sit and just be with yourself, it's commendable. Because it's not an easy thing to do, especially in a world that's always telling you to go. So thank you for doing that for yourself, and thank you for sharing your practice with me. I hope that you got something out of it. And we do this every Wednesday and Sunday at 6pm Eastern time. You're welcome to join. We'd love to get the community together of people who want to meditate regularly so that we can support each other and hold each other accountable and so that we can help lead each other back to the safe places within ourselves when the world gets a little too chaotic. So thanks again. Hope you enjoy the rest of your evening. If you have any questions, comments, you can message me here message me on Instagram @michaelsinclair. If not, and I'll see you next time. Thanks. As You Are is a community of people, led by Micheal Sinclair, dedicated to discovering and loving ourselves in our present condition. Before we can love ourselves, we must get to know ourselves and I've found that meditation is the best tool for helping us connect with ourselves on a deeper level. The 'As You Are' community meditations happen every Wednesday and Sunday @6pm via YouTube live. This is is a recording of the guided meditation held on May, 25, 2022. • Svadhyaya

Svadhyaya is one of the Niyamas. Sanskrit Word: Svadhyaya English Translation: Self-Study Use it in a sentence: Svadhyayadistadevatasamprayogah. Yoga Sutra 2.44 "By studying one's self through study of sacred texts, one communicates with the divine." Information: The journey of practicing yoga is a journey inward. Even with a room full of people around you and a teacher nearby, your yoga practice is nobody’s but your own. Your body is unlike anyone else’s. Your mind and experiences are unique to you. As you practice, not only do you observe the physical progress in asana (yoga poses), but you begin to observe your mind. How do you react when a pose is hard for you? Are there any poses that trigger you - making you pissed off or cry? Or are there poses that you skip altogether? All of that is information. We observe our idiosyncrasies not to judge them or be hard on ourselves, but to simply to see where we are and where we need to go. Liveology, LLC is a yoga media company sharing "More life. • Pardon our Dust! | Liveology Yoga Studios ATL

Visit us in person at the ATL studio before we have to leave. Why we're leaving & what's next. Pardon our dust. We’re under construction! Nevertheless, full schedule of in person Ashtanga, meditation, and breathwork classes begin April 4. ✨ It is amazing how much Liveology has evolved over the years. Liveology was first born back in 2012, while Christina @morelifemoreyoga was in seminary, working on an idea for a coffee house ministry, where we could have community and healing conversation. The idea laid dormant for a number of years until 2018. As Christina evolved, Liveology was reborn as a mobile yoga studio, creating large scale events, but when the pandemic hit, we went online. By 2020, our website expanded so much we had over 1,000 articles and decided to launch Liveology Yoga Magazine both in print and digital in June 2021. Just a few weeks before we launched our first issue, we got our 1st full time space. Now, our website has daily hits from across the country and across the world, and we are focusing on creating more online courses and classes for so many of you who don’t live in Atlanta, so you can practice with Liveology from anywhere. We are so grateful and amazed by what God has done! It’s amazing to witness how God continues to expand Liveology. God, we can’t wait to see what you do next because everything you do is so spectacular! • Ozohu Adoh

Founder of Epara Skincare Website: https://www.eparaskincare.com/ Information: From Epara Entrepreneur Ozohu Adoh is the founder and CEO of Epara. She grew up in Nigeria, attained her MBA at Oxford University and has a life-long personal passion for authentic skincare. Yet for a long time she suffered from a dry, uneven skin condition and searched fruitlessly for products that would treat her concerns. When no products or treatments worked, Ozohu decided to develop her own. She went back to basics with organic ingredients from Africa - and soon found a formula that worked wonders. Within just a few weeks, the irritability and sensitivity had gone and her face was soft and clear. Ozohu's next step was to work closely with a lab in the UK to fully develop formulas that address all the skincare issues faced by women of colour, including dryness and discolouration caused by the sun, free radicals and air pollution.
