Our solar system sits within the Milky Way galaxy, a small portion of which which we can see in remote areas night.

The Milky way is a galaxy, which is home to about 100 billion stars, including the star we call our Sun. Our solar system is on the outer edge of the Milky Way galaxy. Based on measurements, is believed that the Milky Way is a barred spiral shaped galaxy, but it is impossible to see because we are inside it and do not have the ability to go outside of our galaxy.

There are billions of other galaxies in the known universe.
