- Matthew
Matthew is one of the 12 disciples of Jesus. Name: Matthew Aramaic Name: מתתיהו (matityahu) Greek Name: Ματταίoς (matthias) English Translation: Gift of YHWH Information Related to: Son of Alphaeus Profession: Tax Collector Both Mark and Luke tell the call story of Levi, the tax collector in an almost identical way to the call story of Matthew in Matthew. It it likely that these are the same person. Jesus equates tax collectors with sinners and is even asked why he associates with people like Levi. Calling Levi to follow demonstrates that salvation is accessible to all. Matthew in the Bible Matthew's Call Story Matthew 9:9 Matt. 9:9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. Luke 5:27-31 27 After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” 28 And he got up, left everything, and followed him. 29 Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. 30 The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 Jesus answered, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; 32 I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Name: Thomas | Didymus Aramaic Name: תאומא (to'ma) Greek Name: Θωμᾶς (to'mas) English Translation: Twin Information Called "Doubing Thomas" because he did not believe that Jesus had come back from the dead until he saw it for himself. Thomas in the Bible Thomas asks Jesus the Way John 14:5-7 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Thomas Doubts Jesus' Resurrection John 2:24-29 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

When doubt creeps in, sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. How to stop getting in your own way. 1. Stay the Course Sometimes, right when things are getting good, doubt will sink in. We'll start to question ourselves and sometimes this voice can become so loud that we may even contemplate stopping altogether. This is actually a sign that you're on the right track. It's natural to question how good things are, but be certain that randomly wanting to quit, especially when things are going ok, is only showing you that you are on the verge of a breakthrough. It's always the hardest right before the breakthrough, so hold on and keep pushing even harder. 2. Take Inventory At times it can be hard to identify what is really going on because what appears to be bothering us on the surface is really just a symptom of an underlying issue. If you are feeling a large and sudden amount of dis-ease, consider what is really the cause by taking inventory of your feelings and the setting you are in including the people, recent events, and outstanding items that need to be taken care of. Is something left unresolved? Or is there a nagging issue that is hard to deal with? Focus on the specific issue and nip it in the bud right now. Do not allow small issues to become big ones simply because you didn't pay attention to them festering in the background. 3. Encourage Yourself You need to be your #1 fan, your biggest advocate, your personal cheerleader. Unless you are a really adorable puppy, few of us have people around constantly giving us lavish praise simply for existing. But sometimes, that is what we need. Some kind words for no reason, and a pat on the back for the awesome job you've been doing of just getting up and trying every day. So be that person for yourself. Don't wait around for a mate, a boss, or a friend to tell you what you want to hear. Tell yourself. Make a list of 2-3 affirmations and repeat them to yourself at least once a day. If you get good at this, you might even try repeating these personal mantras throughout the day. 4. Find an Accountabilibuddy Having someone to keep you on track can make the difference between letting things slide and staying laser focused. This person can take many forms. Many people hire a coach specifically for the purpose of having an sharp, external set of eyes to measure how they're doing, and the improvement can be significant. Another method is simply finding a like-minded friend to discuss plans or projects with. Ideally, solidify these discussions into a weekly time slot so that you both prioritize the time you have together.

- Let Your Inner Fire Grow
In yoga, the internal fire that builds during practice is called Tapas. Ashtanga ABCs Day 14 {Let Your Inner Fire Grow} Challenge Pose: Virabhadrasana A In yoga, the internal fire that builds during practice is called Tapas. This can be translated as literally body heat, but it’s also the internal fire of transformation. In Ashtanga yoga, the heated room, repeated vinyasas between postures, and the intensity you bring to your personal practice come together to build your internal fire. Over time and with sustained practice, this inner fire not only helps to eliminate toxins, but it also primes and loosens the body for deeper bodywork. This is the magic factor that is the difference between stretching and transforming your body through yoga. Allow your tapas to build by practicing daily. Sweat and breathe strongly. Don’t run from the pose. Sink into it. This is where transformation happens.

- Boost Your Immunity with Yoga
It turns out that yoga is one of the best activities you can do to ward off illnesses and maintain a strong immune system. Yoga has an almost miraculous way of opening up the body. The repetitive vinyasas and movements that help to get the limbs on track help to align the various systems of the body so that everything can flow in a more harmonious way. Stress Decreases Immunity. Yoga Decreases Stress. There is so much information and misinformation nowadays in the chaos of Covid. While we recognize the importance of being aware of what is going on, much of the way information has been conveyed regarding this illness has been confusing and had led to a level of high alert in many people. Unfortunately, the problem in this situation is that stress decreases immunity. The American Psychological Association discusses the reality of "psychoneuroimmunology," a phenomenon that links stress with infection. They conclude: Managing stress, especially chronic or long-term stress (even if it's not intense), may help people to fight germs. When burdened with long-term stressors, such as caring for an elderly parent or spouse with dementia, health can benefit from conscientious stress management. If you are fearful about contracting any illness, the best thing you can do is find a way to relax and eliminate the things that are causing stress. The breathing exercises found in yoga are widely known to promote relaxation and decrease stress. Yoga is More than Just Exercise Yoga is much more than just exercise for many reasons, but one of them is that it stimulates much more than just the muscular system. Yoga also stimulates the internal organs. Poses where we take the head far back and open the throat, such as Matsyasana have the effect of stimulating the thyroid gland, while twists like Marichyasana C can help to stimulate the liver and other internal organs in the abdomen. Practicing yoga over a period of time can create an overall feeling of wellness. As the systems of the body come to increased states of health, the lymph and blood in the body can flow freely in all areas. Many long-term yogis will tell you that this affects their immune system and improves their ability to stay healthy more frequently and to overcome illness more quickly. If You're Sick, Stay Home Of course, if you're actively sick, stay home, rest, hydrate, and give yourself time to heal.
- What To Expect in 200YTT Yoga Teacher Training
Teacher training can change you, but only if you allow it to. Round Out Your Yoga Knowledge Most trainings do a good job of covering the history of yoga including the Yoga Sutras and 8-Limbs, the various styles of yoga, very basic anatomy and physiology, asana, and the basic mechanics of performing adjustments. Get to Know Like Minded People Many of the people who come to YTT have had some type of transformative experience through yoga that calls them to learn more and maybe even to share their great experiences with others. Sometimes when this happens the people in your immediate surroundings don’t initially understand the changes you are making. It can be exciting to meet people who are on a similar journey as you. Get to know your classmates. You’ll probably have surprising things in common. Let it Change You Teacher training can change you, but only if you allow it to. This change can be physical, it can be in the form of letting go of something, or any number of ways that are meaningful to you. There may be moments where the work becomes emotionally difficult, and that’s a great sign! You are strong enough to push through it. Keep a journal and try to write in it daily or as frequently as possible. It doesn’t matter what you talk about but try to document the journey. How do certain poses make you feel? How are your body and mind changing? How are you feeling spiritually? Just observe. YTT isn’t the End You may not be ready to teach right away and that’s ok and actually pretty normal. There is so much information that sometimes it can take time to let it all sink in and find your own voice out of it all. YTT provides a basic foundation, but there’s so much more to teaching yoga than completing a course. Learning how to make people feel comfortable in your presence as the teacher and how to safely move bodies is a skill that really needs to be taught by a teacher and practiced over a long period of time. Find a mentor and keep taking classes and courses regularly, whenever something seems interesting to you. Most importantly, keep practicing. You are your best teacher, and the insights you gain from practicing help your students as well.
