Helium is the 2nd element on the periodic table and the 2nd most abundant element in the universe, after hydrogen. Helium is an inert, non-flammable gas that is lighter than air. As a result, it is commonly used to inflate and lift hot air balloons. In its liquid form, it is used as a coolant in cryogenics and superconductors.
