A lifelong social justice advocate, Rev. Clara spent the bulk of her career in the trenches working to heal our communities by pointing toward and being a reflection of God's love for all. Through her efforts, South Berkeley Community Church became a beacon in the community, feeding the homeless and fighting against the introduction of crack cocaine in the black community. These efforts are documented in Altars in the Street, a chronicle of life in Berkeley, California by Melody Ermachild Chavis.

After the death of her son, a veteran who had just come home from serving as a Marine in Desert Storm, and was killed in a gang shooting in Richmond, VA. Rev. Clara ramped up her efforts. She created a wide network of allies across various faiths to address gun violence and crime within the black community.

Rev. Clara currently acts as a Life Catalyst and motivational speaker, bringing together various faith traditions as she explains how to get in touch with the God within you.
