- Habari Gani? I Can't Lose. And Neither Can You.
Everything is gain. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 Last Quarter Moon Recently, someone told me that parting ways with an old friend and mentor was unfortunate. I thought about it for a couple of days. What was unfortunate about it? Certainly at the moment it was uncomfortable, but I had always thought of the incident as for my benefit, so I found it interesting that after all these years, someone fed me that negative thought. I mulled it over for a couple of days before talking to the person about it. Of course, they didn't mean to be negative, but it made me really think about why I considered an incident that someone else would consider to be unfortunate to be tremendously positive. On the surface, many people appear to have been taught to look at life as difficult and as any type of change as inherently negative. A worldly interpretation looks at the surface and judges based on the immediate effect. A breakup is "bad." A death is "sad." Rain is "gloomy." Moving is "difficult." These interpretations often cause us to look longingly at the past, but this is often shortsighted, failing to see the big picture, and causing us to have negative emotions about the present and the future. On a spiritual level, things are often completely the opposite than these surface interpretations. A breakup can be the best thing that ever happened to you. A death is actually a birth into a new realm. Rain is welcome nourishment for the earth and water for us to sustain ourselves. Moving is an opportunity to open up a new chapter. We must be very careful how we label things. Simply labeling something as unfortunate or fortunate can cause us to feel totally different emotions about it and as a result have a completely different set of actions in response. After the incident in question, I went on to spread my wings, strike it out on my own, and develop my business in new and exciting ways. If the situation had not occurred, I knew that I had no intention of departing from my mentor and would not have grown in the beautiful ways I did when forced to go it alone. So while on the surface, at first the separation may have been uncomfortable, even when it happened, I knew that it was an opportunity for me to evolve and to rise to the challenge of a new level. In life, we are always moving in a forward trajectory. Just as the earth is always moving forward through the universe, we, too, are always moving forward. Any perception of moving backward is literally only in our minds, as we are always evolving and moving forward. Like a bow and arrow, the pull back is only there to catapult us even farther forward. The brief moment of setback is so that we can gain even more, even faster, and go even farther. Even if you're playing a simple betting game and you lose the game or even money in the short term, there is always gain somewhere, if you look on the spiritual level because we are always continuing to move forward. The gain is often in the form of spiritual growth, knowledge, and leveling up, and the gain is always greater than any perceived loss. The only way you can lose is if you give up, give in or take on a shortsighted thought pattern, living in the past. When we are at the moment of graduating from one level to another, we quite literally have to break with people, places, and things from the previous level in order to move upward to the new level. Often, this looks like ending friendships, moving, closing a business, or even a spiritual death. Those who have a fixed mindset will say, "Oh how said that ended," but those with a growth mindset will say, "Oh, how exciting!" It's all how you look at it. Peace, Christina Christina V. - Eliphaz Speaks: Job’s Wickedness Is Great | Job 22
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored, if you remove unrighteousness from your tents. The Books of the Bible Eliphaz Speaks: Job’s Wickedness Is Great Job 22:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered: 2 “Can a mortal be of use to God? Can even the wisest be of service to him? 3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous, or is it gain to him if you make your ways blameless? 4 Is it for your piety that he reproves you, and enters into judgment with you? 5 Is not your wickedness great? There is no end to your iniquities. 6 For you have exacted pledges from your family for no reason, and stripped the naked of their clothing. 7 You have given no water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. 8 The powerful possess the land, and the favored live in it. 9 You have sent widows away empty-handed, and the arms of the orphans you have crushed.a 10 Therefore snares are around you, and sudden terror overwhelms you, 11 or darkness so that you cannot see; a flood of water covers you. 12 “Is not God high in the heavens? See the highest stars, how lofty they are! 13 Therefore you say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the deep darkness? 14 Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the dome of heaven.’ 15 Will you keep to the old way that the wicked have trod? 16 They were snatched away before their time; their foundation was washed away by a flood. 17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone,’ and ‘What can the Almightya do to us?’b 18 Yet he filled their houses with good things— but the plans of the wicked are repugnant to me. 19 The righteous see it and are glad; the innocent laugh them to scorn, 20 saying, ‘Surely our adversaries are cut off, and what they left, the fire has consumed.’ \21 “Agree with God, and be at peace; in this way good will come to you. 22 Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. 23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored, if you remove unrighteousness from your tents, 24 if you treat gold like dust, and gold of Ophir like the stones of the torrent-bed, 25 and if the Almighty is your gold and your precious silver, 26 then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,a and lift up your face to God. 27 You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will pay your vows. 28 You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways. 29 When others are humiliated, you say it is pride; for he saves the humble. 30 He will deliver even those who are guilty; they will escape because of the cleanness of your hands.”a New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - Khandogya Upanishad 1.11
They meditated on Om as the scent of the breath in the nose, but the Asuras pierced it with evil. Khandogya Upanishad Prapathaka 1. Khanda 11. 1 When the Devas and Asuras struggled together, both of the race of Pragâpati, the Devas took the udgîtha (Om), thinking they would vanquish the Asuras with it. 2 They meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as the breath (scent) in the nose, but the Asuras pierced it (the breath) with evil. Therefore we smell by the breath in the nose both what is good-smelling and what is bad-smelling. For the breath was pierced by evil. 3 Then they meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as speech, but the Asuras pierced it with evil. Therefore we speak both truth and falsehood. For speech is pierced by evil. 4 Then they meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as the eye, but the Asuras pierced it with evil. Therefore we see both what is sightly and unsightly. For the eye is pierced by evil. 5 Then they meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as the ear, but the Asuras pierced it with evil. Therefore we hear both what should be heard and what should not be heard. For the car is pierced by evil. 6 Then they meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as the mind, but the Asuras pierced it with evil. Therefore we conceive both what should be conceived and what should not be conceived. For the mind is pierced by evil. 7 Then comes this breath of life in the mouth. They meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as that breath. When the Asuras came to it, they were scattered, as (a ball of earth) would be scattered when hitting a solid stone. 8 Thus, as a ball of earth is scattered when hitting on a solid stone, will he be scattered who wishes evil to one who knows this, or who persecutes him; for he is a solid stone. 9 By it (the breath in the mouth) he distinguishes neither what is good nor what is bad-smelling, for that breath is free from evil. What we eat and drink with it supports the other vital breaths (i. e. the senses, such as smell, &c.) When at the time of death he does not find that breath (in the mouth, through which he eats and drinks and lives), then he departs. He opens the mouth at the time of death (as if wishing to eat). 10 Aṅgiras meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as that breath, and people hold it to be Aṅgiras, i.e. the essence of the members (angânâm rasah); 11 Therefore Brihaspati meditated on udgîtha (Om) as that breath, and people hold it to be Brihaspati, for speech is brihatî, and he (that breath) is the lord (pati) of speech; 12 Therefore Ayâsya meditated on the udgîtha (Om) as that breath, and people hold it to be Ayâsya, because it comes (ayati) from the mouth (âsya); 13 Therefore Vaka Dâlbhya knew it. He was the Udgâtri (singer) of the Naimishîya-sacrificers, and by singing he obtained for them their wishes. 14 He who knows this, and meditates on the syllable Om (the imperishable udgîtha) as the breath of life in the mouth, he obtains all wishes by singing. So much for the udgîtha (Om) as meditated on with reference to the body. The Upanishads translated by Max Müller Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - Bezalel and Oholiab | Exodus 31
You shall keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, given in order that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. The Books of the Bible Bezalel and Oholiab Exodus 31:1 The LORD spoke to Moses: 2 See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 and I have filled him with divine spirit, with ability, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, in every kind of craft. 6 Moreover, I have appointed with him Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have given skill to all the skillful, so that they may make all that I have commanded you: 7 the tent of meeting, and the ark of the covenant, and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, 8 the table and its utensils, and the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense, 9 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, 10 and the finely worked vestments, the holy vestments for the priest Aaron and the vestments of his sons, for their service as priests, 11 and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the holy place. They shall do just as I have commanded you. The Sabbath Law 12 The LORD said to Moses: 13 You yourself are to speak to the Israelites: “You shall keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, given in order that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. 14 You shall keep the sabbath, because it is holy for you; everyone who profanes it shall be put to death; whoever does any work on it shall be cut off from among the people. 15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be put to death. 16 Therefore the Israelites shall keep the sabbath, observing the sabbath throughout their generations, as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.” The Two Tablets of the Covenant 18 When God finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God. - Habari Gani? Believe in Something.
Even if it's just yourself. Wednesday, December 27, 2023 Full Moon The older I get, the more differently I see the holidays. While I truly enjoy the festivities and the food, I take the Christinas season much less literally than I once did. I used to be that Christian who would affirm that "Jesus is the reason for the season," but as I grow older and realize that just about everyone, including Atheists, celebrate Christmas, I realize that the holiday season is so much more than Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, and which one you celebrate. We place these holidays during this season because the season itself represents something. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, this is the cold time of the year, where we bundle up, snuggle together, make warm beverages to keep ourselves toasty and comforted. This is a time when the leaves have fallen, and many animals move into warmer climates or caves. As the temperature drops, everything seems to slow down. We have more time to spend time together and to reflect on the year gone by. We have more time to think about spiritual things, about God, the nature of life, what we are doing with our lives. We have more time to think about what we believe in, where we put our faith. As many people move away from organized religion, I always wonder what people believe in. If it's not God, then what? Do you believe in your family? Do you believe in the government? Do you believe in yourself? Sadly, I find that many don't believe in anything at all. Having gone on an epic spiritual journey exploring many traditions, I find it essential to believe in something, even if it's not God. Having a strong belief, even if some may want to call it a placebo effect, is enough to get us from vision to a business. Belief can give us enough hope to hold on during tough times, knowing that with a little faith things will get better. But without belief in anything at all, hope begins to fade. The hard times feel harder. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, only perpetual darkness. No wonder, so many people give up the ghost around the holidays. They lose hope. If I have learned anything from building Liveology® Yoga Studios, it is simply that if you can't believe in anything or anyone else, you can at least believe in yourself. Be the light in the darkness, yourself. Be the one you can count on, yourself. Believe with your whole heart that you can do anything you put your mind to, if you do not give up. While believing in God might just take prayer, believing in yourself requires taking bold action. Taking care of yourself as you would take care of a small child. Taking lovingly to yourself. Following through on your promises to yourself. Somehow, it may actually be harder to believe in yourself than to believe in God because believing in yourself requires a great deal of action. But somehow, to me the two are connected. Belief in God is what made me belief in myself. Believing in myself and accomplishing amazing things makes me realize how much God has given me and empowered me and strengthened me. So this holiday season, my call to everyone is simply to believe. I can't tell you what to believe in. What you believe will likely change over the course of your lifetime as you grow, question, and evolve. But believe with your whole heart in something, even if it's just yourself. Peace, Christina P.S. Today, as many celebrate Kwanzaa, the day is Kujichagulia | Self-Determination. - Do we Need to Surrender to God? Yoga vs. Christianity
Isvara Pranidhana Peace Familia it is Christina and I wanted to start making some videos that I think are going to be pretty cool. We'll see how you all react to it. I identify as a Christian. I've been a Christian my whole life, and I've gone on this kind of like epic spiritual journey exploring all different types of paths and Buddhism and yoga and Islam and like all kind of different stuff, to be honest. And I feel like I've come to this really beautiful place where, you know, I really do believe that God is one and that God has really tried to communicate to us throughout the world. And so especially having, you know, being a yoga teacher and being deep into yoga. I feel like it's interesting, at least to me, to link together some of these principles between at least my understanding of Christianity and my understanding of yoga traditions. Eastern traditions kind of like putting East and West together. And so I have a feeling that this might offend a couple of people, and that's totally fine. You know, I'm not saying I have all the answers. I'm actually just more bringing up questions and drawing parallels to see if there's anything there and if it's interesting to anybody else and if it's helpful. So today I really wanted to talk about Surrender to God. And I love this one, because if you look at the eight limbs of yoga, you have literally eight different aspects of the practice of yoga. So when you in the West, for whatever reason, like most of us, have considered yoga to be asana, which is like posture practice. So when you're like, you know, um, inhale, exhale, right. Like most of us would be like, that's yoga. But like in reality, there's eight aspects to yoga. It starts with the yamas and niyamas, which are the first two limbs. Asana is number three. And so the idea is that before you even do a single posture, that you would get your heart and mind oriented in the right place, which is toward God. And so I think it's interesting, like I've actually seen videos of people talking about the yogic path and will be like, "I don't believe in God. You know, we don't, you know, I, you know, the light in me, it's the light in you. Namaste. Which is like so beautiful. But then like, they play like God doesn't exist. Well, like, "You know that I'm. I am God. You are God." Like that type of like stuff. But like, if you actually go deep into pretty much every yogic text, from the Yoga Sutras to the Upanishads, like literally all of them talk about God like big, big G. Big God like, not like you and me are divine god, but they talk about like, big God, like surrender to God. And so I wanted to discuss that because I feel like I keep seeing people talk about like, "I am the God. And like, you know, my truth is supreme. And so I get to just follow what I feel because I am God, I am divine." And I do believe that God does bestow a divinity upon us. But like we are not ultimately the end all be all right. Like I didn't create myself. You didn't create yourself. I did not create this environment that I'm in right here. I did not create the grass. I did not create the sun. Right. So it's like I may have some level of like inner divinity, inner strength, but like, I am not myself big God, I am like a little, little, little. I'm a little piece of clay that was breathed into. And so I really wanted to talk about one of the niyamas in the eight limbs of yoga. And so you have yamas, which are like supposed to kind of set your heart on the right path. So it's things like ahimsa, non-harming and things like that. And the niyamas are personal disciplines, like ways that you can actually discipline the flesh, discipline the mind, and ultimately surrender to God. So in the Yoga Sutras, the of the niyamas Ishvara Pranidhana, which just means surrender to God is one of the niyamas. So it's like anyone who genuinely says that they practice yoga and follow the yogic path like. At least in my understanding, would be saying that they believe in God and are surrendered to God. So it's kind of interesting, like fascinating for me when I see a lot of yoga teachers and they're just pretty much like, I don't believe in God. I don't feel like I have to surrender to anybody except for my own will. And I feel like that's really the opposite of the yogic path altogether. The yogic path is a path of surrender. It's a path of surrendering the ego, surrendering the will like, you know, and I think this is where for me, the Christian faith and the yogic traditions, even though they seem so different at first, actually come together as one. Because, you know, in the Christian tradition, Judeo-Christian, you would say, like, not my will, but your will, God be done. And in the yoga tradition, when you say, surrender to God, surrender to the will of God, that's that same thing, you know. I think what happened is yoga, especially the way it's practiced in the West. I think that I'm not sure how this happened, but it's like at least it seems to be like in the 70s, maybe 60s, 70s, 80s, a lot of teachers from the United States and from like Western cultures went over to India and were like, teach me yoga. And so they went and learned these practices. A lot of it was asana based, but like, which is just postures. But then the teachers would like they would apparently, from what I understand, like sit in their home, the teacher would teach them things like breathwork, meditation, spiritual, like they would have real conversations. And then somehow after these people got back to the United States, I'm not sure what happened, but it's like a lot of that stuff got lost. And when you go to yoga class, all it is is just posture practice, which is number three of the eight limbs. And so it's like somehow it's like Lost in Translation that yoga is a spiritual discipline, that yoga has eight aspects, and that the thing that we do in yoga class is only number three of eight things, and that if you're only doing this one part, you're really not encompassing all of it. And I think that the result and the reason I'm talking about this, I think the result is that when you only focus on posture practice, you're focusing on the physical body like you're focusing on the flesh. Whereas yoga as a spiritual discipline is supposed to be focused on actually not focusing on the flesh, but focusing on the spirit, focusing on transcendent things, and so decreasing the ego like we have, like what's called Purusha, which is like the. The Spirit, I guess, is one word that you would call it in yoga tradition. And so you would have like Purusha, like the big Purusha, and then you would have each of us being aberrucia. So it's like I, the Purusha within me is looking at the camera, right? Looking at you. And then the person within you is looking back at me. Right? So it's like God has bestowed God's eyes into all of us so that we can all interact with each other. But that's God's way of trying to see and experience the world. And so I think that's such a beautiful way to look at it. Right? Like the God in me, the God in me recognizes the God in you, right? It doesn't mean that you are God and that I am God. It's that God has come into me and I acknowledge that, and God has come into you, and I acknowledge that. Right? And, you know, I think somehow as we've like, gone to just yoga is posture practice. We've begun to just focus on the body and like the oh, look at how good I look in this pose and look like almost like posture chasing. Like, look at how many poses I can do. Look at how good I am at them. Let me take a picture of it. And like I'm not exempt from this. Like this is literally what I was have been doing, you know, and so I'm talking out of my own experience and my own insight and like, as I'm growing and evolving on the yoga path and also on a Christian path. Really thinking through, like, what does it really mean to be a Yogi? Does it mean that I am good at doing postures and that I'm athletic? Or does it mean that I'm, you know, decreasing my ego and focusing less on myself and more on God? And I think the latter is really what the path of yoga really is. And so I just kind of wanted to talk about that. And I wanted to kind of ask you guys what you think about that, you know, as yogis for for those of you who are yogis who practice yoga, like, consider yourself to be yoga teachers, yogis, whatever. Do you feel that surrender to God is a is an essential part of practice, and do you think it should be? And to those of you who are Christians, I know Christians can be like so um, because I know, you know, we look at the word of God as like being inherent and like, you know, a lot of people are afraid to look at other traditions with any level of seriousness and so we'll just kind of reject it all together. Like I've heard a lot of people call yoga satanic and all that kind of stuff demonic, and we can talk about that. I probably will do a video on that one just because I think that's a really interesting topic. But. For my Christians. Like, do you see any parallels? Like, do you see how the practice of yoga when practice, you know, I think in an authentic way that's balanced across all eight limbs, you know, also recognizes that same surrender to God. You know, I just think it's so cool. I genuinely believe that, you know, this God is only there's one there's only one God. There's only one creator of all this. There's only one breath. There's only one sustainer. You know of all this? And I think that what's happened is. You know, just like how we have different languages. Like if you read the Bible, they talk about Babel and like how initially everyone spoke the same language and then all the languages got confused and no one could talk to each other anymore. And I think that literally, like religions and spirituality is like that way. Like I think it's that, you know, God has tried to communicate the same information to everybody across the world and that each culture has just interpreted it a little bit differently, you know? And so some people have focused on this part of it, and some people have focused on that part of it. But I think ultimately it comes from the same source, and that when you really look carefully, you can see parallels between it. And so I just wanted to talk about that. I'm going to do more videos. I didn't want this to be too, too long. And so tell me what you think in the comments. Do you see the parallel? Do you think that it's okay to look at these? Are you offended? Are you mad? Like whatever you feel like I really want to know. And if there are any cross like, interfaith topics that you're interested in that you want me to talk about and explore. Also, let me know in the comments so that I can work on that. And so I love you guys. Make sure to like, subscribe! Tell a friend that I have this YouTube channel going now so that it can grow. The Books of the Bible Job Replies: The Wicked Often Go Unpunished Job 21:1 Then Job answered: 2 “Listen carefully to my words, and let this be your consolation. 3 Bear with me, and I will speak; then after I have spoken, mock on. 4 As for me, is my complaint addressed to mortals? Why should I not be impatient? 5 Look at me, and be appalled, and lay your hand upon your mouth. 6 When I think of it I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh. 7 Why do the wicked live on, reach old age, and grow mighty in power? 8 Their children are established in their presence, and their offspring before their eyes. 9 Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them. 10 Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and never miscarries. 11 They send out their little ones like a flock, and their children dance around. 12 They sing to the tambourine and the lyre, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe. 13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol. 14 They say to God, ‘Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways. 15 What is the Almighty,a that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’ 16 Is not their prosperity indeed their own achievement? The plans of the wicked are repugnant to me. 17 “How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? How often does calamity come upon them? How often does God distribute pains in his anger? 18 How often are they like straw before the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away? 19 You say, ‘God stores up their iniquity for their children.’ Let it be paid back to them, so that they may know it. 20 Let their own eyes see their destruction, and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 21 For what do they care for their household after them, when the number of their months is cut off? 22 Will any teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those that are on high? 23 One dies in full prosperity, being wholly at ease and secure, 24 his loins full of milk and the marrow of his bones moist. 25 Another dies in bitterness of soul, never having tasted of good. 26 They lie down alike in the dust, and the worms cover them. 27 “Oh, I know your thoughts, and your schemes to wrong me. 28 For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’ 29 Have you not asked those who travel the roads, and do you not accept their testimony, 30 that the wicked are spared in the day of calamity, and are rescued in the day of wrath? 31 Who declares their way to their face, and who repays them for what they have done? 32 When they are carried to the grave, a watch is kept over their tomb. 33 The clods of the valley are sweet to them; everyone will follow after, and those who went before are innumerable. 34 How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.” New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - The Daily Offerings | Exodus 29
Now this is what you shall offer on the altar. The Books of the Bible The Daily Offerings Exodus 29:38 Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two lambs a year old regularly each day. 39 One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer in the evening; 40 and with the first lamb one-tenth of a measure of choice flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering. 41 And the other lamb you shall offer in the evening, and shall offer with it a grain offering and its drink offering, as in the morning, for a pleasing odor, an offering by fire to the LORD. 42 It shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there. 43 I will meet with the Israelites there, and it shall be sanctified by my glory; 44 I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; Aaron also and his sons I will consecrate, to serve me as priests. 45 I will dwell among the Israelites, and I will be their God. 46 And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them; I am the LORD their God. - Zophar Speaks: Wickedness Receives Just Retribution | Job 20
Though wickedness is sweet in their mouth, though they hide it under their tongues. The Books of the Bible Zophar Speaks: Wickedness Receives Just Retribution Job 20:1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered: 2 “Pay attention! My thoughts urge me to answer, because of the agitation within me. 3 I hear censure that insults me, and a spirit beyond my understanding answers me. 4 Do you not know this from of old, ever since mortals were placed on earth, 5 that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless is but for a moment? 6 Even though they mount up high as the heavens, and their head reaches to the clouds, 7 they will perish forever like their own dung; those who have seen them will say, ‘Where are they?’ 8 They will fly away like a dream, and not be found; they will be chased away like a vision of the night. 9 The eye that saw them will see them no more, nor will their place behold them any longer. 10 Their children will seek the favor of the poor, and their hands will give back their wealth. 11 Their bodies, once full of youth, will lie down in the dust with them. 12 “Though wickedness is sweet in their mouth, though they hide it under their tongues, 13 though they are loath to let it go, and hold it in their mouths, 14 yet their food is turned in their stomachs; it is the venom of asps within them. 15 They swallow down riches and vomit them up again; God casts them out of their bellies. 16 They will suck the poison of asps; the tongue of a viper will kill them. 17 They will not look on the rivers, the streams flowing with honey and curds. 18 They will give back the fruit of their toil, and will not swallow it down; from the profit of their trading they will get no enjoyment. 19 For they have crushed and abandoned the poor, they have seized a house that they did not build. 20 “They knew no quiet in their bellies; in their greed they let nothing escape. 21 There was nothing left after they had eaten; therefore their prosperity will not endure. 22 In full sufficiency they will be in distress; all the force of misery will come upon them. 23 To fill their belly to the full God will send his fierce anger into them, and rain it upon them as their food. 24 They will flee from an iron weapon; a bronze arrow will strike them through. 25 It is drawn forth and comes out of their body, and the glittering point comes out of their gall; terrors come upon them. 26 Utter darkness is laid up for their treasures; a fire fanned by no one will devour them; what is left in their tent will be consumed. 27 The heavens will reveal their iniquity, and the earth will rise up against them. 28 The possessions of their house will be carried away, dragged off in the day of God’s wrath. 29 This is the portion of the wicked from God, the heritage decreed for them by God.” New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - The Ordination of the Priests | Exodus 29
Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests. The Books of the Bible The Ordination of the Priests Exodus 29:1 Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests. Take one young bull and two rams without blemish, 2 and unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil. You shall make them of choice wheat flour. 3 You shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, and bring the bull and the two rams. 4 You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and wash them with water. 5 Then you shall take the vestments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastpiece, and gird him with the decorated band of the ephod; 6 and you shall set the turban on his head, and put the holy diadem on the turban. 7 You shall take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head and anoint him. 8 Then you shall bring his sons, and put tunics on them, 9 and you shall gird them with sashes and tie headdresses on them; and the priesthood shall be theirs by a perpetual ordinance. You shall then ordain Aaron and his sons. 10 You shall bring the bull in front of the tent of meeting. Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull, 11 and you shall slaughter the bull before the LORD, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, 12 and shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and all the rest of the blood you shall pour out at the base of the altar. 13 You shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the appendage of the liver, and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, and turn them into smoke on the altar. 14 But the flesh of the bull, and its skin, and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering. 15 Then you shall take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, 16 and you shall slaughter the ram, and shall take its blood and dash it against all sides of the altar. 17 Then you shall cut the ram into its parts, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them with its parts and its head, 18 and turn the whole ram into smoke on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the LORD; it is a pleasing odor, an offering by fire to the LORD. 19 You shall take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, 20 and you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of the right ears of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet, and dash the rest of the blood against all sides of the altar. 21 Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his vestments and on his sons and his sons’ vestments with him; then he and his vestments shall be holy, as well as his sons and his sons’ vestments. 22 You shall also take the fat of the ram, the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the appendage of the liver, the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ordination), 23 and one loaf of bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before the LORD; 24 and you shall place all these on the palms of Aaron and on the palms of his sons, and raise them as an elevation offering before the LORD. 25 Then you shall take them from their hands, and turn them into smoke on the altar on top of the burnt offering of pleasing odor before the LORD; it is an offering by fire to the LORD. 26 You shall take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s ordination and raise it as an elevation offering before the LORD; and it shall be your portion. 27 You shall consecrate the breast that was raised as an elevation offering and the thigh that was raised as an elevation offering from the ram of ordination, from that which belonged to Aaron and his sons. 28 These things shall be a perpetual ordinance for Aaron and his sons from the Israelites, for this is an offering; and it shall be an offering by the Israelites from their sacrifice of offerings of well-being, their offering to the LORD. 29 The sacred vestments of Aaron shall be passed on to his sons after him; they shall be anointed in them and ordained in them. 30 The son who is priest in his place shall wear them seven days, when he comes into the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place. 31 You shall take the ram of ordination, and boil its flesh in a holy place; 32 and Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 33 They themselves shall eat the food by which atonement is made, to ordain and consecrate them, but no one else shall eat of them, because they are holy. 34 If any of the flesh for the ordination, or of the bread, remains until the morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy. 35 Thus you shall do to Aaron and to his sons, just as I have commanded you; through seven days you shall ordain them. 36 Also every day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. Also you shall offer a sin offering for the altar, when you make atonement for it, and shall anoint it, to consecrate it. 37 Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and consecrate it, and the altar shall be most holy; whatever touches the altar shall become holy. - Job Replies: I Know That My Redeemer Lives | Job 19
He has put my family far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. The Books of the Bible Job Replies: I Know That My Redeemer Lives Job 19:1 Then Job answered: 2 “How long will you torment me, and break me in pieces with words? 3 These ten times you have cast reproach upon me; are you not ashamed to wrong me? 4 And even if it is true that I have erred, my error remains with me. 5 If indeed you magnify yourselves against me, and make my humiliation an argument against me, 6 know then that God has put me in the wrong, and closed his net around me. 7 Even when I cry out, ‘Violence!’ I am not answered; I call aloud, but there is no justice. 8 He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness upon my paths. 9 He has stripped my glory from me, and taken the crown from my head. 10 He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone, he has uprooted my hope like a tree. 11 He has kindled his wrath against me, and counts me as his adversary. 12 His troops come on together; they have thrown up siegeworks against me, and encamp around my tent. 13 “He has put my family far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. 14 My relatives and my close friends have failed me; 15 the guests in my house have forgotten me; my serving girls count me as a stranger; I have become an alien in their eyes. 16 I call to my servant, but he gives me no answer; I must myself plead with him. 17 My breath is repulsive to my wife; I am loathsome to my own family. 18 Even young children despise me; when I rise, they talk against me. 19 All my intimate friends abhor me, and those whom I loved have turned against me. 20 My bones cling to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. 21 Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me! 22 Why do you, like God, pursue me, never satisfied with my flesh? 23 “O that my words were written down! O that they were inscribed in a book! 24 O that with an iron pen and with lead they were engraved on a rock forever! 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;c 26 and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, 27 whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me! 28 If you say, ‘How we will persecute him!’ and, ‘The root of the matter is found in him’; 29 be afraid of the sword, for wrath brings the punishment of the sword, so that you may know there is a judgment.” New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - Vestments for the Priesthood | Exodus 28
These are the vestments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a checkered tunic, a turban, and a sash. The Books of the Bible Vestments for the Priesthood Exodus 28:1 Then bring near to you your brother Aaron, and his sons with him, from among the Israelites, to serve me as priests—Aaron and Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 2 You shall make sacred vestments for the glorious adornment of your brother Aaron. 3 And you shall speak to all who have ability, whom I have endowed with skill, that they make Aaron’s vestments to consecrate him for my priesthood. 4 These are the vestments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a checkered tunic, a turban, and a sash. When they make these sacred vestments for your brother Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests, 5 they shall use gold, blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and fine linen. The Ephod 6 They shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and of fine twisted linen, skillfully worked. 7 It shall have two shoulder-pieces attached to its two edges, so that it may be joined together. 8 The decorated band on it shall be of the same workmanship and materials, of gold, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and of fine twisted linen. 9 You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, 10 six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, in the order of their birth. 11 As a gem-cutter engraves signets, so you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel; you shall mount them in settings of gold filigree. 12 You shall set the two stones on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel; and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD on his two shoulders for remembrance. 13 You shall make settings of gold filigree, 14 and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings. The Breastplate 15 You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work; you shall make it in the style of the ephod; of gold, of blue and purple and crimson yarns, and of fine twisted linen you shall make it. 16 It shall be square and doubled, a span in length and a span in width. 17 You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of carnelian, chrysolite, and emerald shall be the first row; 18 and the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and a moonstone; 19 and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold filigree. 21 There shall be twelve stones with names corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel; they shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes. 22 You shall make for the breastpiece chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; 23 and you shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the two edges of the breastpiece. 24 You shall put the two cords of gold in the two rings at the edges of the breastpiece; 25 the two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings, and so attach it in front to the shoulder-pieces of the ephod. 26 You shall make two rings of gold, and put them at the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inside edge next to the ephod. 27 You shall make two rings of gold, and attach them in front to the lower part of the two shoulder-pieces of the ephod, at its joining above the decorated band of the ephod. 28 The breastpiece shall be bound by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a blue cord, so that it may lie on the decorated band of the ephod, and so that the breastpiece shall not come loose from the ephod. 29 So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart when he goes into the holy place, for a continual remembrance before the LORD. 30 In the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be on Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; thus Aaron shall bear the judgment of the Israelites on his heart before the LORD continually. Other Priestly Vestments 31 You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue. 32 It shall have an opening for the head in the middle of it, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening in a coat of mail, so that it may not be torn. 33 On its lower hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, all around the lower hem, with bells of gold between them all around— 34 a golden bell and a pomegranate alternating all around the lower hem of the robe. 35 Aaron shall wear it when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the holy place before the LORD, and when he comes out, so that he may not die. 36 You shall make a rosette of pure gold, and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, “Holy to the LORD.” 37 You shall fasten it on the turban with a blue cord; it shall be on the front of the turban. 38 It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall take on himself any guilt incurred in the holy offering that the Israelites consecrate as their sacred donations; it shall always be on his forehead, in order that they may find favor before the LORD. 39 You shall make the checkered tunic of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash embroidered with needlework. 40 For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics and sashes and headdresses; you shall make them for their glorious adornment. 41 You shall put them on your brother Aaron, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests. 42 You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh; they shall reach from the hips to the thighs; 43 Aaron and his sons shall wear them when they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister in the holy place; or they will bring guilt on themselves and die. This shall be a perpetual ordinance for him and for his descendants after him. New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors | Amos 1
For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment The Books of the Bible The Book of Amos Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake. Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors 2 And he said: The LORD roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds wither, and the top of Carmel dries up. 3 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron. 4 So I will send a fire on the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad. 5 I will break the gate bars of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Aram shall go into exile to Kir, says the LORD. 6 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they carried into exile entire communities, to hand them over to Edom. 7 So I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, fire that shall devour its strongholds. 8 I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord GOD. 9 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they delivered entire communities over to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of kinship. 10 So I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, fire that shall devour its strongholds. 11 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity; he maintained his anger perpetually, and kept his wrath forever. 12 So I will send a fire on Teman, and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah. 13 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead in order to enlarge their territory. 14 So I will kindle a fire against the wall of Rabbah, fire that shall devour its strongholds, with shouting on the day of battle, with a storm on the day of the whirlwind; 15 then their king shall go into exile, he and his officials together, says the LORD. - Bildad Speaks: God Punishes the Wicked | Job 18
Surely the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of their fire does not shine. The Books of the Bible Bildad Speaks: God Punishes the Wicked Job 18:1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered: 2 “How long will you hunt for words? Consider, and then we shall speak. 3 Why are we counted as cattle? Why are we stupid in your sight? 4 You who tear yourself in your anger— shall the earth be forsaken because of you, or the rock be removed out of its place? 5 “Surely the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of their fire does not shine. 6 The light is dark in their tent, and the lamp above them is put out. 7 Their strong steps are shortened, and their own schemes throw them down. 8 For they are thrust into a net by their own feet, and they walk into a pitfall. 9 A trap seizes them by the heel; a snare lays hold of them. 10 A rope is hid for them in the ground, a trap for them in the path. 11 Terrors frighten them on every side, and chase them at their heels. 12 Their strength is consumed by hunger, and calamity is ready for their stumbling. 13 By disease their skin is consumed, the firstborn of Death consumes their limbs. 14 They are torn from the tent in which they trusted, and are brought to the king of terrors. 15 In their tents nothing remains; sulfur is scattered upon their habitations. 16 Their roots dry up beneath, and their branches wither above. 17 Their memory perishes from the earth, and they have no name in the street. 18 They are thrust from light into darkness, and driven out of the world. 19 They have no offspring or descendant among their people, and no survivor where they used to live. 20 They of the west are appalled at their fate, and horror seizes those of the east. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the ungodly, such is the place of those who do not know God.” New Revised Standard Version Liveology Yoga Studios creates uplifting content for your whole life. - Job Prays for Relief | Job 17
My spirit is broken, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me. Surely there are mockers around me. The Books of the Bible Job Prays for Relief Job 17:1 My spirit is broken, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me. 2 Surely there are mockers around me, and my eye dwells on their provocation. 3 “Lay down a pledge for me with yourself; who is there that will give surety for me? 4 Since you have closed their minds to understanding, therefore you will not let them triumph. 5 Those who denounce friends for reward— the eyes of their children will fail. 6 “He has made me a byword of the peoples, and I am one before whom people spit. 7 My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my members are like a shadow. 8 The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent stir themselves up against the godless. 9 Yet the righteous hold to their way, and they that have clean hands grow stronger and stronger. 10 But you, come back now, all of you, and I shall not find a sensible person among you. 11 My days are past, my plans are broken off, the desires of my heart. 12 They make night into day; ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is near to the darkness.’a 13 If I look for Sheol as my house, if I spread my couch in darkness, 14 if I say to the Pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’ 15 where then is my hope? Who will see my hope? 16 Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? - Job Reaffirms His Innocence | Job 16
God gives me up to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked. I was at ease, and he broke me in two. The Books of the Bible Job Reaffirms His Innocence Job 16:1 Then Job answered: 2 “I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all. 3 Have windy words no limit? Or what provokes you that you keep on talking? 4 I also could talk as you do, if you were in my place; I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you. 5 I could encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips would assuage your pain. 6 “If I speak, my pain is not assuaged, and if I forbear, how much of it leaves me? 7 Surely now God has worn me out; he has made desolate all my company. 8 And he has shriveled me up, which is a witness against me; my leanness has risen up against me, and it testifies to my face. 9 He has torn me in his wrath, and hated me; he has gnashed his teeth at me; my adversary sharpens his eyes against me. 10 They have gaped at me with their mouths; they have struck me insolently on the cheek; they mass themselves together against me. 11 God gives me up to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked. 12 I was at ease, and he broke me in two; he seized me by the neck and dashed me to pieces; he set me up as his target; 13 his archers surround me. He slashes open my kidneys, and shows no mercy; he pours out my gall on the ground. 14 He bursts upon me again and again; he rushes at me like a warrior. 15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and have laid my strength in the dust. 16 My face is red with weeping, and deep darkness is on my eyelids, 17 though there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure. 18 “O earth, do not cover my blood; let my outcry find no resting place. 19 Even now, in fact, my witness is in heaven, and he that vouches for me is on high. 20 My friends scorn me; my eye pours out tears to God, 21 that he would maintain the right of a mortal with God, as one does for a neighbor. 22 For when a few years have come, I shall go the way from which I shall not return.
