  • Habari Gani?| Where is the Light Shining?

Where is the light shining? Weather Sun in Pisces Waning Crescent Moon in Capricorn Monday, March 8, 2021 Grand rising, family, I am pondering this morning what it means to be still. Something came into my awareness recently, and I have spent some time asking myself, "How do I fix it?" Questions like this can be helpful if you have an actual problem that needs to be fixed. But if you're like me, sometimes my mind likes to run infinite scenarios about problems that really aren't problems or about things that can't really be/don't need to be fixed per se.

  • Habari Gani? | End the Internal Battle

Weather Sun in Pisces Waning Crescent Moon in Aquarius Friday, March 12, 2021 Life can be tough. It's hard enough having to deal with external forces and obstacles in our path, and a whole pandemic going for the past year. But it only makes everything harder when the force or obstacle in our path is ourselves. One of the realizations I came upon over the past week was the extent to which I have been impeding my own progress. As some recurring patterns yet again repeated themselves, I came to an acute state of awareness that the problem, at the end of the day, was me.

  • Habari Gani? | Peace in the Midst of Problems

"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." Weather Sun in Pisces New Moon in Aries Sunday, March 14, 2021 "Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." - Unknown I came to yoga practice, and spiritual practice in general, with the belief that spiritual practice was for the purpose of removing obstacles, breaking chains, and getting rid of negativity with the goal of eventually, having peace. And for me, peace looked like no longer having problems. I believed that after I practiced and prayed for long enough, all of my problems would disappear and new ones would no longer present themselves. But over the years, I became increasingly frustrated with my spiritual disciplines because I was still having problems - and big ones.

  • Habari Gani? | Don't Worry. Be Happy!

Whistling while we work... Weather Sun in Pisces Waxing Crescent Moon in Taurus Wednesday, March 17, 2021 "Don't Worry Be Happy" A Song by Bobby McFerrin Here's a little song I wrote You might want to sing it note for note Don't worry Be happy In every life we have some trouble But when you worry you make it double Don't worry Be happy Ain't got no place to lay your head Somebody came and took your bed Don't worry Be happy The landlord say your rent is late He may have to litigate Don't worry Be happy Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style Ain't got no gal to make you smile Don't worry Be happy 'Cause when you worry your face will frown And that will bring everybody down So don't worry Be happy Now there, is this song I wrote I hope you learned note for note Like good little children, Don't worry Be happy Now listen to what I said, in your life expect some trouble When you worry you make it double But don't worry Be happy I'm not worried, I'm happy! I couldn't have said it better. This is one of my all time favorite songs since childhood. I have a rule that if it ever pops up on my playlist I have to listen to it in its entirety. And what can I say? It always makes me happy! Wishing you a no worries, happy day, family! Christina

  • Habari Gani? | Push Start.

Vroom vroom. Weather Sun in Pisces Waxing Crescent Moon in Taurus Tuesday, March 16, 2021 Push start. It can be so scary to start something new. As a yoga teacher who primarily teachers beginners and people totally new to yoga, every week I can spot new people as they apprehensively step into the yoga room for the first time. They remind me of all the same questions I had when I started. How do you put the mat? What should I wear? What is this language I've never heard before?

  • Habari Gani? | Eliminate Careless Mistakes

BRB. Double checking our homework... Weather Sun in Pisces Waxing Crescent Moon in Taurus Thursday, March 18, 2021 Careless Mistakes. Ever since I was a kid, I've had the habit of moving just a bit too fast. My mom used to get on me about my homework because I would always complete it so quickly that even though it would be correct overall, I would leave small errors really from not checking my work that would always decrease my grade. She called them "careless mistakes." Careless mistakes are evidence of moving on autopilot. Completing a task perhaps in a way that is technically correct, but with a lack of awareness and a lack of follow through.

  • Habari Gani? | Protect Your Freedom

How important is freedom to you? Weather Sun in Pisces 1st Quarter Moon in Gemini Friday, March 19, 2021 How important is freedom to you? We throw around the word freedom a lot in the United States, but what does freedom actually mean in today's world? Freedom is simply the ability to think and live as you see fit, just as any other animal, like a horse, would. If we were living in the wild or perhaps before civilization, we may have had a different definition of freedom. But today, living in a commonly held domesticated environment with governments making most of the decisions about what types of freedoms we should have, and lobbying groups fighting to influence these decisions, even the idea of freedom has changed.

  • Habari Gani? | Tear it Down

Hit a brick wall? Tear that shit down. Weather Sun in Pisces Last Quarter Moon in Scorpio Thursday, March 4, 2021 Grand rising, family. Hit a brick wall? I, for one, quite literally ran into one of my walls (I have many, apparently) this past week. For me, a brick wall is a limitation, a limiting belief, a recurring problem or mistake, or something in my life I have been frustratingly unable to "push through" over a long period of time. Sometimes, I am able to ignore these walls that I have up, but sometimes, somehow the flow of life backs me up into a corner and there I am, up against the wall. In asana practice, this physically looks like areas of the body that are "stuck" and for some reason, these areas are a perpetual problem. Generally, we like to emphasize areas that we're good at and avoid areas that are stuck or difficult. So without conscious and intentional correction, it's pretty easy to avoid these stuck areas most of the time. And as a result, they stay stuck.

  • Habari Gani? | A Listening Ear

Spirit's trying to send you a message. Are you listening? Weather Sun in Pisces Waning Crescent Moon in Aquarius Thursday, March 11, 2021 A listening ear. An open heart. As the Moon rests in Aquarius and we approach the New Moon, we are coming to resolution on some things and receiving some much needed insights from Spirit about ourselves and the situations around us. We may be going through a little bit of growing pains, but it's all gravy because we're getting something or some things that we really want.

  • Colloquy of Bride & Friends | Song of Solomon 1

I am black and beautiful. Colloquy of Bride and Friends Song of Solomon 1:2-8 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine, 3 your anointing oils are fragrant, your name is perfume poured out; therefore the maidens love you. 4 Draw me after you, let us make haste. The king has brought me into his chambers. We will exult and rejoice in you; we will extol your love more than wine; rightly do they love you. 5 I am black and beautiful, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon. 6 Do not gaze at me because I am dark, because the sun has gazed on me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept! 7 Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you pasture your flock, where you make it lie down at noon; for why should I be like one who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions? 8 If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow the tracks of the flock, and pasture your kids beside the shepherds’ tents. • Hagar

“Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” Information Hebrew Name: הָגָר Hagar English Translation: flight, forsaken Known For: Egyptian slave girl of Sarai/Sarah, Abraham's wife Given to Abram to conceive a child, as Abram and Sarai awaited the son promised by God Mother of Ishmael, who is considered to be the forefather of Islam Ran away after Sarai treated her harshly In the wilderness, promised by an angel that her son would be the father of a nation Mentioned in: Genesis Scripture References The Birth of Ishmael Gen. 16:1-16 1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, bore him no children. She had an Egyptian slave-girl whose name was Hagar, 2 and Sarai said to Abram, “You see that the LORD has prevented me from bearing children; go in to my slave-girl; it may be that I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. 3 So, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her slave-girl, and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife. 4 He went in to Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be on you! I gave my slave-girl to your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me!” 6 But Abram said to Sarai, “Your slave-girl is in your power; do to her as you please.” Then Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she ran away from her. 7 The angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She said, “I am running away from my mistress Sarai.” 9 The angel of the LORD said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her.” 10 The angel of the LORD also said to her, “I will so greatly multiply your offspring that they cannot be counted for multitude.” 11 And the angel of the LORD said to her, “Now you have conceived and shall bear a son; you shall call him Ishmael, for the LORD has given heed to your affliction. 12 He shall be a wild ass of a man, with his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him; and he shall live at odds with all his kin.” 13 So she named the LORD who spoke to her, “You are El-roi”; for she said, “Have I really seen God and remained alive after seeing him?” 14 Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it lies between Kadesh and Bered. 15 Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael. Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away Gen. 21:8-20 8 The child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. 9 But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, playing with her son Isaac. 10 So she said to Abraham, “Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not inherit along with my son Isaac.” 11 The matter was very distressing to Abraham on account of his son. 12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed because of the boy and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be named for you. 13 As for the son of the slave woman, I will make a nation of him also, because he is your offspring.” 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. 15 When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the child under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, “Do not let me look on the death of the child.” And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept. 17 And God heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. 18 Come, lift up the boy and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make a great nation of him.” 19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. She went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the boy a drink. 20 God was with the boy, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. 21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother got a wife for him from the land of Egypt. • Souley Vegan | Las Vegas, NV

Authentic Louisiana Creole Flavor. 100% Plant Based Location: 333 W St Louis Ave Las Vegas, NV 89102 Website: https://souleyvegan.com/oakland Information: From Souley Vegan Tamearra Dyson, Chef and Owner at Souley Vegan, has been cooking her signature vegan dishes since she was 18. Chef Dyson believes in cruelty free eating. Growing up my Mother fed us three kids (my brother Myron, Sister Rosalie and myself) a primarily vegetarian diet. She didn’t call it that at the time, she just tried to do her best with what she had. When I was pregnant with my son Aquil, I began cooking. Being a vegan already, all of the dishes I prepared were vegan. In June 2007, I decided to leave a promising career in the medical field for something I was more passionate about. (That something became what you now know as Souley Vegan!) A single mother with zero savings! Of course everyone said I was crazy to pursue this. But not one to be discouraged, I began catering and selling food at local markets and events. Fast forward two years, in 2009, I came across a vacant restaurant location at 301 Broadway in Downtown Oakland. After passing by this location a first, second, and third time, I decided to call and schedule a walk through. I barely had the gas to drive down there, but I went and attempted to portray full confidence in my ability to pay the high price the landlord was requiring upon securing the property. In my heart and soul I felt that this place belonged to Souley Vegan. When I opened Souley Vegan in July of 2009 I had to my name one pair of pants and the 27 dollars my sister put in the cash register right before I opened the doors.
